Despite having an innovative and well-articulated concept, the client faced challenges with technical expertise. It became apparent that they required a partner who could understand their vision, navigate the complexities of the project, and effectively drive it to a successful completion.
We proposed a plan that would give the client everything they wanted from BrainGym. The app would be easy to use, respect employee privacy, and help everyone manage their mental health better.
We recommended a short survey that employees could quickly complete.
We thought a chat room would be a wonderful location for employees to discuss their experiences.
We recommended a private chat function that allows employees to schedule discussion sessions with mental health coaches.
We also believed it would be beneficial for the corporate team to be able to see how everyone was doing overall. So we offered a dashboard that provides an overview of the workforce's mental health.
Lastly, we suggested that BrainGym should work together with other health apps. This way, employees can get a full picture of their health all in one place.

We place a strong emphasis on identifying and learning more about how to use research and understand the mental health tracking space.
Identifying a niche in a saturated market
The mental health and wellness space already had a wide range of applications, making it difficult to identify unique features that would set Brain Gym apart. We needed to find a balance between adding new functionalities and ensuring ease of use.
Evaluated existing wellness apps to identify unique selling points (USPs), feature gaps, and common user pain points. Focused on features like well-being surveys, health tracking, and progress improvement.
A detailed look at our competitors really helped us understand what Brain Gym's competition is good at and where they might be falling short. This information allowed us to come up with our unique solution to address any gaps in the market.
Clearly defined the main app features and ensured each module catered to different user roles (employee, coach, admin, and corporate).
We develop a solid foundation for the user experience through personas, user stories, and information architecture.
Designing for diverse user needs
Brain Gym had four distinct user groups: employees, coached, corporate and administrators, each with different goals and needs. Balancing their varying requirements while keeping the app intuitive was a key challenge.
Representing the different types of users through personas by documenting their needs, pain points, and motivations.
We created personas for each user-type and ensured that the app addressed each group's distinct needs, from individual mental health tracking to organizational reporting.
Mapped out user journeys such as completing mental well-being assessments, reviewing department health trends, accessing organizational reports, and many more.
We structured the app to ensure intuitive navigation for all users while providing access to complex organizational insights.
We create intuitive and visually appealing interfaces based on the defined structure and user needs.
Balancing simplicity with comprehensive features
The biggest design challenge was creating an interface that was minimal and non-overwhelming for users while still allowing access to detailed insights at various levels (individual, departmental, organizational).
Ensuring the wireframes captured both granular and high-level information in a balanced, digestible manner.
Iterated on wireframes by conducting early user testing, ensuring clarity of layout and easy access to vital features for each user group.
We designed a clean, calming interface that used soft colors, white space, and intuitive navigation to avoid overwhelming users with too much data at once.
Each user type had a tailored experience—employees had minimalistic personal dashboards, while corporate users had access to in-depth analytics.
We built interactive high-fidelity prototypes for testing key interactions, such as completing mental health assessments, reviewing reports, and managing privacy settings.

Maintaining design consistency across platforms
With Brain Gym needing to work seamlessly across web, Android, and iOS platforms, one of the main challenges was ensuring a consistent user experience across devices while respecting the specific design guidelines of each platform.
I led workshops to ensure developers understood design goals and user stories for a smooth development process. Design documentation and prototypes were shared to ensure consistency, and frequent feedback loops between design and development ensured that the product met its intended experience on all platforms.
We delivered a polished, functional app that meets the client’s expectations. Brain Gym Connect app is now available on Google Play Store and App Store.
By following a structured design process—Discover, Define, Design, Develop, and Deliver—Brain Gym was successfully brought from concept to completion.
Cross-functional collaboration with developers from the start helped prevent technical roadblocks and ensured a seamless experience across platforms.
This experience also changed my way of thinking about the real world.
